APPROVAL
SCHEME FOR HOLISTIC ANIMAL FOODS AND ASSOCIATED PRODUCTS
The
Association operates an approval scheme for commercial products including
feeding stuffs, feed additives and herbal products. All approved products
must be compatible with the evolved physiology of the species and as such
must not contain any unsuitable substances such as synthetic additives and
GM products. The scheme embraces Organic Standards. In addition, holistic
feeding stun must provide a viable holistic nutritional profile
The
scheme operates within the framework of existing legislation such as the
Medicines Act, The Feeding Stuffs Regulations and the Trade Descriptions
Acts. It is intended to provide the consumer with an informed choice and
all holistic products must meet with the strict criteria as laid down by
the technical committee.
Through appropriate legislation BAHNM will
protect the interests of both approved manufacturers and the consumer by
preventing the inappropriate use of the word ‘holistic’ to describe
products that cannot be considered as such or registered under the scheme.
